Coverage in the media (mainstream and otherwise)
- Letters to the New York Times, including Ira Levin‘s comments on the model for the town of Stepford in his novel The Stepford Wives.
- Robert Fisk has been the Independent’s Middle East correspondent for almost thirty years. He is the author of The Great War for Civilization: The Conquest of the Middle East. His April 8 column, “The True Story Of Free Speech In America”, puts the VIC controversy into historical, political and moral perspective. For anyone who thinks this is about a bunch of spoiled teenagers and their fem-Nazi teacher getting mad that they didn’t get their way.
- Sarah Littman (who posts on MyLeftNutmeg.com as saramerica — see under Blogs) weighs in from a Greenwich, CT newspaper, Greenwich Time. She obviously has the ear of some of the principals from the Theater Arts II class, and she has given the best insights into just what they’re being put through.
- An editorial in the College Hill Independent from a recent WHS grad eviscerates Tim Canty and Gary Richards, and reveals that Canty refused permission to screen An Inconvenient Truth during a science class project on global warming.
- If my recollection is correct, being scooped by the Wilton Villager is like being scooped by The Recycler.
- What passes for established journalism in Wilton came out with this pithy and well-written opinion immediately after the New York Times article. Okay, I shouldn’t be so snarky; if it weren’t for them I probably never would have had the playscripts. And a week later, they published an intelligent interview with Paul Rieckhoff. But they also published this, a vicious personal attack on Bonnie Dickinson by Barbara Alessi, and an anonymous editorial supporting Alessi’s arguments. Don’t read this without following up with CTPatriot’s dissection on MyLeftNutmeg. More about the Wilton Bulletin here.
- On May 28, the Wilton Library hosted a panel discussion, “Voices In Harmony“, to which the Board of Education, Superintendent Richards and Principal Canty were invited. None appeared, and as has been the case ever since the April 13 Board of Education meeting, the conversation was one-sided.
