For the next four Fridays, excerpts from The Last Waltz (1978), Martin Scorsese’s documentary of The Band’s farewell concert at the Winterland Ballroom, Thanksgiving 1976.
The stage is decorated with sets from the San Francisco Opera’s production of La Traviata and chandeliers from Gone With The Wind.
Performing The Weight and The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down are The Band: Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson. Accompanying them on The Weight are Mavis and Pops Staples.
