As a teenager, Warren Zevon briefly studied classical music composition with Igor Stravinsky, and one of his first professional jobs was as a band leader and piano player for the Everly Brothers. Is there any question why I love the guy’s music? 😉

Jess, are you aware that three great Warren Zevon albums were just re-released, remastered and with added songs? Two — “The Envoy” and the classic, live “Stand in the Fire” — somehow had never been on CD before. The third is a re-mastered “Excitable Boy,” which sounds much clearer than the original.
Also, on May 1, Rhino is releasing “Preludes,” a collection of early Zevon songs, and HarperCollins is publishing “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead: The Dirty Life and Times of Warren Zevon,” written by his ex-wife (at Warren’s request) Crystal Zevon, and based on interviews with 87 friends, musiciaons, lovers, etc. Maybe this is the year that will see Warren finally get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — and there’s a link to a petition supporting that at http://www.warrenzevon.com.
