Arlo and John August 27, 2006

Posted by Jeff in Folk, Music.

Nowadays, it seems to be be intractable Conventional Wisdom that “country singers” are red-staters and “folk singers” are blue-staters. (Remember what a shock it was to learn that the Dixie Chicks had the same opinion of our unelected non-President that we did?)

It shouldn’t seem that strange for Arlo Guthrie to appear on The Johnny Cash Show as he did on January 21, 1970. But here he is, performing “The Motorcycle Song”. Yes, complete with The Significance Of The Pickle … and notice how a few audience members applauded when the motorcycle landed on top of the cop. And then The Man In Black accompanies him on a verse of Alice’s Restaurant. Cool.
